HVRC has been in existence since the early 1960's. Wickens Road now crosses the site of the original ring, which was used by the Fairfax Hunt as a starting place for their hunts. When Wickens Road and the adjoining roads were added, the ring was moved to the corner of Wickens and Aryness Drive and a second, smaller ring was installed. There was a large cross country course with fences, stone walls, and other assorted jumps, and the Field Hunter event was a popular class in the semi-annual horse shows. Since this area has been developed, HVRC now has a full size dressage ring on Hunters Valley Road, and a large jumping ring next to Difficult Run at the end of Hunters Valley Road.
The Club has a year round program of riding activities which includes the use of riding rings, jumps, trails, and a cross country course. HVRC maintains miles of trails for riding which were set aside for use when the Hunters Valley subdivision was developed by the Wickens family. There is an excellent network of trails on the Hunters Valley area and neighboring lands made available to the Club. The HVRC trail system connects to Fairfax County Park Authority trails, Fox Lake, the W & OD horse trail running from Vienna to Leesburg, and the River- to-Rails trail running from the W & OD trail to Great Falls Park. Among its many activities, the Riding Club sponsors a Fun Day for children and adults, a Breakfast Ride to Fairfax Hunt, and joins the Hunters Valley Association in the Steak Barbecue and the Halloween Wiener Roast and Hayride. HVRC maintains its facilities for members and their guests for lesson, clinics, seminars, practice, and trail rides.
